Minima Development

These three items were my initial inspirations that formed the basis of my ideas. There is the cage, a matchbox and a tennis ball. The matchbox had the most effect on my ideas.
These thumbnails are in no particular order, they show how I was trying to manipulate what a matchbox does; slide, extend, contract, create new spaces, etc. I made the separate parts slide vertically and horizontally and had them spinning on a central axis. I then explored the cage with the frameowork. I thought it would be nice if the frame could slide around to compact the entire structure, which then led me to explore layering. i thought that in the same way the frame slid around, maybe different cladding materials could slide separately from each other so that you could have any outer skin you wanted; glazing, timber or open air. I eventually came to this thumbnail which I have been developing and trying to adapt to my anthropometrics.
just some planning and random thoughts

It's a little hard to see in the photo, but i mapped out my first plan at 1:1 scale in my driveway. I then stepped through it and tried to imagine what would go where and my surroundings. When i did this i also realised i didnt like the proportions of the building. I think its a great idea to just find a blank concreted area and mark out in chalk what your plan is looking like so you can really try to experience it.

I also made a quick model to visualise how i wanted the boxes to slide into each other for relocating purposes.
